Our History & Community

Al-Madinah School has been serving the Muslim community in Los Angeles since 1979. Located in the heart of urban Los Angeles, our school has welcomed students from a remarkably diverse range of backgrounds. Over the years, our student body has represented families from every continent except Australia and Antarctica, creating a truly international Muslim learning community.

We are proud to provide an environment where Muslim children can learn, grow, and develop a strong academic foundation while being nurtured in their Islamic identity.

Our Hybrid Learning Model

Al-Madinah School now offers a hybrid educational model from Pre-K through 12th grade:

  • Pre-K–2nd Grade:     In-person classroom instruction
  • 3rd Grade–12th Grade:     Online instruction

Our online program provides families with greater flexibility while allowing students to continue receiving a structured Islamic education from home.

The online environment also provides an opportunity for families who wish to maintain gender separation in accordance with Islamic principles. Female students may participate in live Zoom sessions without showing themselves on camera, allowing sisters to maintain their privacy and modesty while still participating in online instruction

Islamicized Curriculum

At Al-Madinah, we believe that education should develop both the mind and the character of a Muslim child. Rather than simply adding Islamic subjects to a conventional curriculum, we have worked to Islamicize the curriculum itself.

Our educational materials include textbooks created by Muslims for Muslim youth, incorporating Islamic values and perspectives into subjects such as:

  • Phonics
  • Reading
  • Health
  • Science

Students are therefore able to develop strong academic skills while learning through materials that respect and reinforce their Islamic identity.

Our Mission & Vision

Our mission is to provide students with opportunities to achieve their highest potential academically and Islamically, preparing them to become righteous leaders of tomorrow and successful believers in the Hereafter.

We seek to educate the whole child—developing knowledge, character, confidence and an Islamic identity.

Our Alumni

Al-Madinah School is thankful to Allah and proud of its long tradition of education. We are proud to have produced a solid foundation for our students who have now become hafiz Quran, accountants, nurses, doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, professors, scientists, behavior analysts, computer specialists, entrepreneurs, and a host of other professionals who benefit our communities, Masha'Allah.

Our alumni are a reflection of the many generations of Muslim students who have passed through Al-Madinah and gone on to serve their families, communities, and society in numerous fields.

What Makes Al-Madinah Different?

Islamic Environment
We strive to create an environment where Islamic values are integrated into students' education and daily learning.

Safe Learning Environment
We seek to provide students with a safe, nurturing environment where they can learn and develop with confidence.

Small Class Sizes
Smaller classes allow students to receive greater attention and support.

International Muslim Community
Our students come from diverse cultural and national backgrounds, representing Muslims from around the world.

Education for the Whole Child
Our goal is not only academic achievement but also the development of knowledgeable, confident, responsible, and practicing Muslim youth.

Looking Toward the Future

After decades of serving Muslim families, Al-Madinah continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of Muslim parents and students. Our hybrid model allows us to combine the benefits of in-person education for younger children with the flexibility and privacy of online education for older students.

Through Muslim-created educational materials, Islamic integration across the curriculum, and a learning environment grounded in Islamic principles, Al-Madinah School continues its mission of educating and nurturing the next generation of Muslim youth.

Weekend Islamic School for Youth

Weekend Islamic Classes for Youth provide students with an opportunity to strengthen their Islamic knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of their faith in a supportive learning environment. Classes are offered for youth ages 4–18 and cover important subjects including Fiqh, Tawheed, Aqeedah, Qur’an with Tafseer, an explanation of the 40 Hadith, and Seerah and stories of the Sahabah. Experienced teachers lead age-appropriate classes every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The program is designed to help Muslim youth build a strong foundation in Islamic beliefs, practices, Qur’anic understanding, and the lives of the Prophet ﷺ and his companions.
